Victoria-based improvisational theatre duo Helen Burger and D’Arcy Briggs are coming to the Intrepid Theatre March 13 and 14 to perform their first self-produced work, The Place You Gave Us.
The show will explore the important places in people’s lives and the memories associated with those places using audience members’ suggestions. Using real-life examples like your childhood homes, first apartments, and the coffee shops where you met the love of your life.
“As performers, we don’t know what’s going to happen, but we do know we’re going to create it with everything that each and every one of us are bringing into the theatre that night,” said the creators.
The work borrows from physical theatre and poetic storytelling, using tools of improvisation to build something closer to contemporary theatre.
Burger and Briggs first met as students in Paper Street Theatre’s Masterclass program with backgrounds in dance, production, and improvisational theatre. They have since performed at Paper Street Theatre’s Improv Festival, Impulse Peek Festival, Theatre Skam’s Skampede Festival, and more.
