FIND THE "M" AND WIN!

Every week we hide an M on the cover. Prove that you've found this week's M and get it into our office to win, either by dropping it off at 818 Broughton Street or by fax at 250-382-6014. Draw is each Monday at noon.  Last week's winner was Derek Roach and the M was hidden on the bill next to the neck tie, just to the right of the music sheet. Good luck!

Shoot for the Hip
10th Annual Monday Magazine Photo Contest and Show

Enter your best photographs in Victoria's longest-running photo contest and show.
All entries will be displayed at the Community Arts Council Gallery, G6-1001 Douglas, from September 9 to September 22. A public opening reception and awards presentation will be held at the gallery from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, September 10.

Categories: Prizes (to be announced) will be awarded to the first place winner in each category. This year's categories are:
Colour (general)
Black and White (general)
"The Naked Truth"
"The Dark Side"
"State of Decay"
"10"   

These last four categories are intentionally designed to be open to interpretation for either colour or B&W, so get creative—and be sure to note the specific category on the entry form. And don't call us to ask what we're looking for; that's up to you!

Prism's Choice Award
Four prizes will be awarded, courtesy of Prism Photo Imaging, for the judges' favourite photo in each of four categories, which will be determined by the judges upon receipt of all entries.

Entry Guidelines:
Photos taken with a digital camera are eligible for entry in any category.
The Colour category is meant for photos that are printed in colour, or photos that are otherwise tinted to include colour.
The Black and White category is meant for photos that are printed in black and white, or are taken in colour but are printed to be viewed as black and white images.

Entry Preparation:
• ALL entries must be submitted as 8"x10" OR 8"x12" prints, mounted on a plain 11"x14" piece of white mat board. A mat is defined as a frame made of mat board, NOT foam-core or paper. If you have any doubts, ask an art supply or framing store. Pictures entered on coloured mats will be disqualified.
• Affix completed entry form (can be a photocopy) to the BACK of the mat. Do not put any identifying information on the front of your entry, including on your photograph. Signed photos will be rejected.
• Entries not complying with these specifications (including mat colour and material) will be rejected before judging, but still displayed at the show.
• An entry fee of $5 (EXACT CHANGE or cheque payable to Black Press) must accompany each photograph entered.
• Photographers may enter more than one category, up to a total of 10 entries per photographer.

Deadline: Entries must be received at Monday Magazine's office by 5 p.m., FRIDAY, AUGUST 13. No late entries will be accepted.

Return of entries: We will not be mailing back any entries. Photographers (or their representatives) may pick up entries from the Monday office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from September 27 to October 1 ONLY. Entries remaining after this time become the property of Monday Magazine and may be used by Monday in future publications and promotions.

MONDAY MAGAZINE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE OR LOSS OF PHOTOS INCURRED WHILE ON DISPLAY. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REASSIGN CATEGORIES IF THERE IS A DISCREPANCY.

This contest is limited to amateur photographers only (that is, those who make less than 50 percent of their income from photography). EMPLOYEES OF BLACK PRESS ARE NOTE ELIGIBLE. Entries will be judged by a panel of professionals in the photography industry.
