Kerry Laitala invites you to get Lightstruck at Antimatter
Short cuts - September 25
SUB strike scotches screenings
Given the ongoing labour dispute up at UVic's Student Union Building, a few of Antimatter's screenings at Cinecenta have been scrapped. The good news is all the films will still be shown: Open Space has opened its doors to host the screenings, with Just Because I'm Standing Here Doesn't Mean I Want To showing at 9 p.m. Wednesday, September 24; I Pity the Fool at 5 p.m. and Frank & Cindy at 11 p.m. Saturday, September 27 and Profit Motive and the Whispering Wind (3 p.m.), Somewhere Between (5 p.m.), Beautiful Losers (7 p.m.) and the Muse of Cinema performance (11 p.m.) all happening Sunday, September 28. Visit antimatter.ws for the full program scoop.
In addition to the screenings, Antimatter is also hosting Lightstruck, a five-hour workshop with the San Francisco Art Institute's Kerry Laitala, where you'll learn how to create hand-exposed movies by placing objects directly onto 35mm film. If you want to participate, you have to bring your own objects (some suggestions include feathers, button or painted film) as well as a small flashlight. Sounds cool! The workshop takes place at noon on Sunday, September 28 at CineVic (2022 Douglas) and costs $30 for CineVic or MediaNet members or $40 for non-members. Call 250-385-3339 to pre-register.
