Rifflandia and VEMF lineups announced
If you think July is looking jam-packed with festival activity, just see what the folks at the Victoria Electronic Music Festival and Rifflandia have in store for your late summer/early fall listening pleasure.
Falling on the B.C. Day long weekend (August 1-2), M-Award winning VEMF is bringing in huge names in electronica such as Baron, Donald Glaude, DJ Dan and Starkillers alongside a whack of Island/Lower Mainland DJs and producers, including AFK, Big Reds, Longwalkshortdock and Marlee. New venues this year include Billy’s Bistro in Centennial Square and the Ambrosia Event Centre, plus spaces like Hush, Sunset Room and Sugar—all in addition to the free all-day events in Centennial Square. Speaking of the Square, it looks like VEMF will have extended hours on Saturday (noon to 10 p.m.) and will run from 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday. Visit vemf.ca for full schedule and lineup information.
While they haven’t released their full lineup info yet, Rifflandia has given a few teasers as to who will be appearing at their second annual festival, happening September 24-27. Tegan and Sara, Buck 65, Holy Fuck, Final Fantasy and Pink Mountaintops are just a few of the early-bird announcement acts. And speaking of early, advance tickets are already on sale for the low price of $40 for the whole weekend. But get ’em while you can, as there’s only a limited number and costs will go up after July 15, when Rifflandia unleashes its full lineup. (We hear there will be a party.)
And just like last year, expect Phillips’ Rifflandabrau beer to be in full effect, plus a few new events such as a full-on festival guide book. And if that isn’t enough, Rifflandia will also coincide with international music-industry conference Transmission. More info can be found at rifflandia.com—and stay tuned for full lineup details.
